Recrytera has partnered with CINECA to support the 2026 International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT),
providing professional services for exam venue management and supervision across 32 test centres in 30 cities and 25 countries. CINECA, a key technological partner for the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), oversees this initiative. What is the IMAT?
The International Medical Admissions Test (IMAT) is the admission test for English-taught Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry and Dental Prosthodontics, and Veterinary Medicine degree programmes at participating Italian universities.
Admission is determined according to the IMAT score, the applicable ranking procedure and the number of available places.

Registration opens on 26 August 2026 and closes on 9 September 2026 at 15:00 Italian time (GMT+2).
Registration is done exclusively through the Universitaly portal.
In Italy, the exam starts at 13:30 Italian time (GMT+2). Times vary by country. Please consult the test center map for further details about the local exam start time and check-in time.
The test includes 60 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 100 minutes:
- 4 Reading Skills & General Knowledge
- 5 Logical Reasoning & Problem Solving
- 23 Biology
- 15 Chemistry
- 13 Physics & Mathematics
The scores are as follows:
- +1.5 points for correct answers
- -0.4 points for incorrect answers
- 0 points for unanswered questions
- Maximum score: 90
Tie-breakers are applied in this order:
- Section scores (biology, chemistry, etc.)
- Language certification
- Disability certification
- Age (younger candidate ranks higher)
Your status affects application procedures, seat availability, and cut-off scores. Non-EU students can only apply to one university.
Cut-offs vary by university and year. Historically:
- Non-EU: Safe score < 61
- EU: Safe score in low 50s
